Short-term "Adventures" for Kiwis
Study at our Partner Schools is supported and made possible by allied activities essential for the efficient functioning of a tertiary learning centre: HR, ESOL, governance, IT, infrastructure, facilities management, and strategic planning. For the teaching to occur well and long term these other functions need to be in place and operating well and long term.
Via LeaDev-Langham's International Volunteers' Programme, Kiwis provide ongoing specialist support and capacity building to Partner Schools in these essential areas. Volunteers put friendship with the Partner School first, and aim to complement the skills of the staff. The starting points for an “adventure” are listening, humility, grace and prayer; and voluntters are fully self-funded, so there is no financial burden on the Partner School.
Between October 2014 and September 2016, Kiwi volunteers gave over 500 days of professional support and expertise in a range of specialist areas to our partners.
A mission for retirement: supporting leadership development in India, Myanmar and PNG
For most Kiwis, retirement is about retreating to the bach to grow tomatoes, watching the sun set over a good pinot, and taking sojourns to Auckland to spend time with the grandkids. Not so Rod and Denise Edwards. “Opportunity to live in Asia challenged us. Two years in an ordinary Filipino neighbourhood exposed us to Asian perspectives; it was to shape our retirement,” they share.
